Getting Started

How do I get started with B-Roll Me?
Download the app for your platform, install it, and open it. Go to Settings and add an AI API key (Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, or OpenRouter) or purchase credits. Then create a new project from the Dashboard, paste your video script, and click Analyze.
Where do I get an AI API key?
Sign up at the provider of your choice: console.anthropic.com for Claude, platform.openai.com for GPT, aistudio.google.com for Gemini, or openrouter.ai for OpenRouter. Each provider has a free tier or free credits for new accounts.
Do I need a YouTube API key?
No. B-Roll Me searches YouTube and fetches transcripts without needing a YouTube Data API key. It uses the InnerTube protocol directly.

Using the App

What does "Auto-Analyze" do?
Auto-Analyze runs the full pipeline with a single click. Paste your script, hit Auto-Analyze, and the app handles analysis, searching, and scoring automatically. Come back to a Results dashboard with the best clips ready for download.
Can I use different AI models for different tasks?
Yes. In Settings > Analysis Preferences, you can set a different model for script analysis and clip evaluation. Use a cheap, fast model for analysis and a more capable model for evaluation.
What video formats can I download?
MP4 and WebM. You can also choose resolution (best available, 1080p, or 720p) and set a default output directory.
How does transcript matching work?
After finding candidate clips on YouTube, B-Roll Me fetches each video's transcript (captions). It then searches the transcript for keywords related to your script context and highlights matching segments with timestamps.
What is local Whisper transcription?
When a YouTube video has no captions, B-Roll Me can use Whisper (an open-source speech recognition model) to transcribe the audio locally on your device. On Apple Silicon Macs, this is Metal-accelerated for faster processing.

Pricing & Licensing

What happens during the 5-day trial?
You get full access to every feature in B-Roll Me. The only requirement is bringing your own AI API key — the trial does not include free AI credits.
What happens when the trial expires?
The app shows a license-required screen and blocks functionality until you purchase a license. No data is lost — your projects and settings are preserved.
What AI API keys do I need?
For BYOK, you need at least one API key from Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI (GPT), Google (Gemini), or OpenRouter. Most users start with one provider and add more later. If you use credits instead, no API key is needed.
How much do the AI API calls cost?
With BYOK, you pay your AI provider directly at their standard rates. A typical video script analysis costs fractions of a cent. With credits, pricing is simple and predictable — you buy credits and they are consumed per operation based on your script length and density.
How does the credits option work?

Can I use B-Roll Me on multiple computers?
Each license can be used on up to 3 machines.

Troubleshooting

Analysis returns an error about invalid API key
Double-check your API key in Settings. Use the "Test Connection" button to verify it works. Make sure you have billing enabled with the provider if required.
YouTube search returns no results
This can happen if YouTube temporarily blocks requests. Try again after a few minutes. If the issue persists, check your internet connection.
Downloads are failing
Make sure the output directory exists and is writable. Try updating yt-dlp from Settings > Tools. Some videos may have download restrictions that prevent segment extraction.
